Welcome to Engaging Schools, formerly known as Educators for Social Responsibility. We’re delighted to show you the result of nearly two years of planning and creation.
Why did we change our name? During the past several years, we came to understand that our name, Educators for Social Responsibility, confused people. Some people thought we were a service learning organization or a membership association. Others understood us to be an advocacy organization for social issues. Moreover, those who know us best — the educators and school leaders with whom we collaborate, readers of our publications, and donors — told us that our name did not reflect the fullness of our work.
After a thoughtful process that involved conversation with our board of directors, school partners, staff members, and other stakeholders, we decided to call ourselves Engaging Schools. This new name conveys our commitment to collaborating with educators and helping them create school communities where each and every student develops the skills and mindsets needed to succeed and make positive contributions in school, work, and life.
In upcoming posts, we’ll share more about what Engaging Schools is all about. In the meantime, we invite you to explore this website to learn more about our approach, services, resources, results, mission and values, and more.
Thanks for joining us as we move forward!
