SEL4MASS, social-emotional learning, SEL professional developmentThose who are in or who can get to the Boston area may want to register for the Social-Emotional Learning Alliance for Massachusetts (SAM) Fourth Annual Spring Conference, “Social-Emotional Learning: The Core of Academic Success and Safe, Resilient Communities.” This conference will take place on May 27, 2015, 9:30 am-4:30 pm, with a special pre-conference ceremony at 9:00 am, at the Great Hall, Massachusetts State House in Boston. The registration fee is $75, which includes lunch.

This conference is a place to learn best practices and practical solutions for improving classroom climate, addressing student conflicts, promoting young people’s mental health, and more; connect with a statewide community involved with SEL; learn ways to measure the effectiveness of SEL initiatives; and explore how your own social-emotional competencies can reduce stress and benefit your work and your life.

Among the special guest speakers will be Congressman Tim Ryan, who has introduced national legislation that amends the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) to allow funding designated for teacher and principal training and professional development to be used for SEL programming.
