After more than four decades of collaborating with educators to build equitable, engaging classrooms and schools that nurture students’ academic, social, and emotional growth, Engaging Schools has closed its doors. While this marks the end of an era, we are delighted to announce that two exceptional organizations will carry forward much of our work, ensuring its continued impact.
CASEL: A Leader in Social and Emotional Learning
The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), a recognized leader in SEL, will house many of our books, tools, and resources, making them freely accessible to educators. With a 30-year history as a trusted source of evidence-based SEL knowledge and practices, CASEL embraced the opportunity to integrate Engaging Schools’ intellectual property into its offerings. Over time, these resources will be woven into CASEL’s extensive programming, further extending their reach and influence in the field of education.
PowerTools: Advancing Engaging Schools’ Services
PowerTools, an organization founded by Nina Dibner—a longtime Engaging Schools supporter and former staff member—will carry forward some of our flagship programs. Like Engaging Schools, PowerTools offers high-quality educational consulting, coaching, and facilitation in the areas of social, emotional, and academic learning, positive culture and climate, and equitable, asset-based approaches that help youth and adults succeed.
Nina and the team at PowerTools will offer our Guided Discipline and Engaged Classrooms Institutes, enriched with PowerTools’ practices in restorative justice and culturally responsive pedagogy, as well as strategies, concepts and protocols from the book, Connect the Dots: The Collective Power of Relationships, Memory, and Mindset in the Classroom, written by Tricia Taylor, director of TailorED Practice, with Nina Dibner. They will also integrate our Advisory resources and training elements into their robust suite of Advisory services.
Gratitude for the Continuation of Our Legacy
We are profoundly grateful to CASEL and PowerTools for their commitment to preserving and advancing Engaging Schools’ rich reservoir of knowledge and resources. Through their stewardship, the principles and practices that have defined our work will continue to shape schools, empower educators, and support students for years to come.
Though this is a moment of transition, it is also a celebration of the enduring impact of Engaging Schools. We take comfort in knowing that the seeds we planted will continue to flourish, carried forward by these outstanding partners.
